About the Role

Our client is a NSW government organization based in Penrith NSW. They are currently seeking a Payroll Officer to come in and work with them on a temp contract opportunity until 25th September 2026 with possible extensions.

Candidates for this role will ideally have:

  • Proven end to end payroll processing experience
  • Previous local government experience
  • Experience with UKG and Empower knowledge (not essential)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills and experience

Key responsibilities include:

  • Weekly Payroll Processing: Validating and entering timesheets, variations, and payroll data into the Empower system weekly.
  • Leave Administration: Processing leave applications, verifying balances, and ensuring sick leave complies with relevant policies.
  • Stakeholder Customer Service: Responding to payroll and general inquiries from staff, the community, and third parties (e.g., banks).
  • Documentation & Correspondence: Preparing official HR and payroll documents, including letters of employment and separation certificates.
  • Records Management: Checking, filing, storing, and archiving payroll and personnel records securely.
  • Governance & Compliance: Conducting all tasks in accordance with relevant legislation, statutory requirements, and relevant policies.
  • Effective Work Practices: Managing personal workload, communicating positively, and contributing to a productive team environment.

About You

You will be an experienced Payroll Officer with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Proven end to end payroll processing experience
  • Previous local government experience
  • Experience with UKG and Empower knowledge (not essential)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills and experience
